Our Heritage
Swiss Herbal is a pioneer of the natural health products industry in Canada, being one of the first companies to sell herbs and vitamins.

 

Swiss Herbal Remedies started as a dream of Rolf Zimmermann, who came to Canada from Germany in 1952 with just $32 in his pocket. He was a baker by trade, but he and his wife, a registered nurse, had extensive knowledge and interest in nutrition and natural remedies, which were common in Europe, but relatively new in Canada at that time.

 

Initially, Rolf imported herbal remedies to use in his bakery.  By the early 1960’s, Rolf’s interest in nutrition and natural remedies inspired him to share his knowledge on a larger scale and led to the opening of two health food stores in Toronto.  He imported raw herbs and herbal formulas from Switzerland and Germany for the stores and eventually started wholesaling as consumer demand for his natural products grew.  The two stores were closed in the late 1980’s to focus on the manufacturing, wholesaling and distribution part of the business, all of which continue to thrive today.

 

The company started with 40 imported products in 1965 and has grown to an extensive line-up of over 400 vitamins, minerals, and supplements.   Our line-up of products now includes formulas developed by our in-house team of Biochemists, Chemists, Formulation Scientist, and a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.

 

Furthermore, Swiss Herbal Remedies proudly supports The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). November 1999 saw the opening of CCNM’s new campus in Toronto.  An important part of this new facility is the Swiss Herbal Remedies Women's Health Centre. This leading edge facility has been dedicated to the understanding and treatment of health concerns specific to women.
